Coach Shannon McKinnon has been a part of the sport of swimming since 1985. For thirteen years, she swam for the Tri-County team of Greenwood Park and was an assistant with the youngest groups during her last two years there. Coach Shannon participated in four years of high school swimming and continued to swim at Division I Towson University. Throughout her swimming career, Coach Shannon received many medals and awards swimming the sprint and middle-distance freestyles, IM, fly, and backstroke events.
Coach Shannon started coaching again as an assistant for the Ocean City High School Raiders back in 2006 and was the head coach of their diving team. In 2007, she became and currently continues to be the head coach of the Gloucester City High School Lions. In 2008, she became the head assistant coach at Greenwood Park until 2013, when she became the head coach for a summer. She was the head coach of the Riverton Waves from 2014-2015. Then in 2016, Coach Shannon became the head coach of Gibbstown and has felt at home ever since.
She has aided in the TNT program over at Rowan University from 2008- 2010. In the fall of 2009, she joined the Greater Philadelphia Aquatics Club coaching staff, and has worked with the Mini, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Senior groups. She currently now assists the Senior group for Wahoos.
When not coaching swimming, Coach Shannon is a teacher of Biology and other sciences at Gloucester High School. She has been there since 2007.
When not working, she enjoys many other sports, including football (she is a Giants fan.) and soccer (as she played for eight years as a defensive player and goalie and was the coach for the Gloucester City Girls Varsity Soccer team for many years.) She enjoys still taking ballet classes because she was dancer for 15 years. And when time allows, she enjoys going surfing and snowboarding.
Nathan has been involved in swimming since the age of four. He began his journey with the Greenfields Turtles, where he competed throughout his childhood and continued until his high school graduation in 2019.
During his first year of college, Nathan began coaching for TWAC, marking the start of his coaching career. He is now entering his third summer as a coach for the Gibbstown Gators and also serves as a coach for the Our Lady of Mercy Academy (OLMA) High School Girls Swim Team, the reigning Non-Public State Champions.
Nathan recently graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (K-6 certification). He is currently a fifth-grade teacher at Broad Street Elementary School, where he brings the same energy and dedication to the classroom that he brings to the pool deck.
Nathan is excited to return for another summer with the Gibbstown Swim Team. He looks forward to working alongside Assistant Coach Sydney and Assistant Coach Abby—both of whom are former teammates—making this season a meaningful reunion as well as a coaching opportunity.
Abby has been a year round swimmer for 10+ years, swimming for Green-Fields Swim Club during the summer and swimming for the Tide Water Aquatics Club (TWAC) and the Greater Philadelphia Aquatics Club (GPAC) in the winter. She also was a 4 year varsity swimmer for West Deptford High School. Abby was a competitive swimmer but also a very spirited swimmer. She would train hard and strive to improve her times and technique ahead of every meet. While working hard in the pool, she would always be at team bonding activities, playing with the younger swimmers, attend pep-ralleys, and be there to get all of the younger swimmers "decked out" before the A-meets. Abby is excited to take what she has learned throughout her swimming career and apply it to her first year of coaching!
Abby currently attends the University of Delaware and is majoring in Early Childhood Education with Special Education. She is a member of the club swim team at the university.
She is so excited to meet all of the swimmers and families and to have an amazing summer swim season at Gibbstown!
Charlotte has been swimming for 14 years. She began her swimming career at Lake Kandle, then moved to Gibbstown 4 years ago. You can see her around the pool working in the canteen or welcoming people in at the front desk. She has been a swim instructor for many years and enjoys every second of it.
Her favorite part of swimming is the bonds that come from practicing everyday and having many cheers on the weekends with meets. She enjoys all aspects of a summer swim team with daily Dunkin’ runs and fun games with all the kids.
Charlotte will be attending University of Hartford for Architecture in the fall of 2026. She is excited to coach and meet all the Gators-in-Training and have an amazing summer swim year!
